People of all ages are invited to volunteer at HorseAbility. Volunteers serve a wide range of functions for the organization, such as fundraising, horse and stable care, and assisting with therapeutic riding and hippotherapy sessions.

The bond that forms between our riders and volunteers who lead the horse and walk beside the rider is something you can experience even if you have never worked with horses before. Whether it is working with our students and horses, working around the barn or helping in the office, there is something here for everyone! Come join our team!

We offer a training program that is both educational and challenging. Proper horse-handling techniques and safety precautions are emphasized. When you begin at HorseAbility you may be paired with a senior volunteer whom you can learn from.

Our volunteers are an indispensable part of HorseAbility. Volunteers of all ages are the cornerstone of our programs.  Horse knowledge is not a necessity. Volunteers are needed to assist with outreach, fundraising, office work, facility maintenance, horse care, barn chores, therapeutic riding lessons, hippotherapy sessions, and camp.

As a thank you to our hard working and dedicated volunteers, HorseAbility is pleased to offer many opportunities to them including:
  • Lessons at a discounted rate
  • Courses in horse care
  • Courses in equine massage
  • Courses in natural horsemanship horse handling
  • Trail rides at a local stable
  • Volunteer horse shows
  • Long Island Ducks trips
  • Splish Splash Trip
  • As well as many other events
