Be a part of something special…

Every horseman knows that a relationship with a horse is special. At HorseAbility, horses and humans become partners in a therapeutic relationship. This experience offers the opportunity to explore abilities rather than disabilities, the possibilities for our participants are endless; similar to the partnership between a business and its vendors, associates, and neighbors.

We invite you to get involved as we continue to expand our facility in Old Westbury.

HorseAbility has been leading the industry standard of excellence in equine facilitated programs on Long Island and the metropolitan area for over two decades. The families of our participants and volunteers comment on our experience, knowledge, welcoming environment, and flexibility.  HorseAbility is known as a safe, ethically focused center. Our utmost concern is offering secure, protected and effective programs to support our participants, we continually tweak and adjust our policies and procedures to ensure we are offering the best possible programs, taking into considering the well-being of all involved.  HorseAbility’s Capital Campaign will help us to bring to reality the fullest potential of our vision in being a leader in advancing and implementing continued education, while further developing innovative programming by embracing and sustaining the best business practices in the equine therapeutic industry. We firmly believe in the benefits of equine facilitated programs, and we remain committed to educating those interested in entering this unique profession. Our core belief is that such training requires the highest standards – the kind that has defined our culture at HorseAbility over the past 27+ years. Raising awareness of the industry, demonstrating safe and effective practices and being an educational center, helps us fulfill our mission on a greater scale.

Phase One

HorseAbility achieved our first goal of our Capital Campaing by obtaining a facility solely dedicated to our participants. Our home is a 20-acre farm located in Old Westbury, on the campus of the State University of New York. A facility of our own us to expand upon our unique programming and serve new populations including military veterans, dementia care participants, special education school groups, day habilitation programming to mention a few. As a result of our move, we are able to offer our programs to an expanded area on Long Island and the 5 boroughs.

Phase Two

HorseAbility is currently in the second phase which seeks to raise the funds needed for the refurbishment of the historic Clark Stables as well as building our indoor arena. The Clark Stables includes, a 27,000 square foot brick barn with 22 stalls, hay loft, space for classrooms, therapy rooms and offices. With much support for generous donors and financing the first part of this phase allowed for the replacement of the roof on the brick barn and the construction of our indoor arena. During the second part of Phase 2, the campaign will focus on the additional funds needed to bring the brick building up to operational occupancy standards and support our financial obligations towards the cost of the indoor arena.

Phase Three

The final phase of our capital campaign insulation will bring the program to its full potential; full-time/full-year operation. Plans include the completion of the indoor arena additions and other renovations – stalls, therapy rooms, offices, tack/feed rooms and community areas. Additionally, heat and fire suppression system is needed for the brick barn building that will house classrooms and therapy rooms.
